Naam & Mili's Engagement Ring
For Naam & Mili
Patel
An engagement ring whose every pillar is your two names, raised to hold one violet sapphire.
Naam came to me with one wish made of two. The ring had to be Mili's in every line — minimal, curved, a single stone, nothing that argues for attention. And it had to carry your names. His first thought was an engraving, hidden inside the band. We found something quieter and stronger: your two names became the pillars of the setting itself, the columns that raise Mili's sapphire and hold it to the light. We drew it two ways and kept the calmer one; the names are the only ornament it needs. It is a solitaire, the way she wanted, and it is one of a kind, the way your story is. I am keeping its record here, the way I keep every piece: one story, in order.

THE TWO NAMES
The ask came in two halves that had to be made one. A solitaire for Mili — curved, minimal, a single stone, nothing that announces itself. And the two names in the metal, where Naam first imagined an engraving inside the band. An engraving hides; I wanted the names to hold. This is the record of finding the form where they could do both.

THE CLEAN BAND
The names, and nothing competing with them.
The two-strand band rises bare and polished into the named gallery, and the oval sapphire sits alone at the top. Nothing on the shank argues with the pillars; the only worked detail on the whole ring is the two names holding the stone. This is the minimal, curved solitaire Mili asked for — restraint as the design, not the absence of one.

THE COLUMN
A little more light, weighed in full.
The same architecture, with small diamonds set along the woven shank so the band catches as the hand moves. Rendered completely, so the choice was real. It is the more decorated of the two — and the reason it was set aside: it asks the band to speak, when the brief asked the band to be quiet and let the names carry the piece.
