The Damru of Chetan Patel

For Chetan
Patel

A Shiva damru worn over the heart — his daily bhakti to Mahadev, made in silver.

You came to the damru not as a picture of an instrument but as a sound — the drum-beat beneath your days that does not charge you up but calms you down. Shiva's damru is the source of nāda, the first vibration; you asked me to make the beat that steadies you, and to rest it over your heart. We settled the whole of it in one line: bold on the body, still in the spirit. Presence, not noise. This page keeps the record — one piece, one story, in order, from the deposit to the day it comes to your hand. On the reverse, known only to you, will sit ॐ नमः शिवाय.

The Sound Beneath the Days

A devotee who hears the damru as stillness, not noise.

He came for a Shiva damru — not as an ornament, not for an occasion, but as a tribute to his devotion to Shiva. His days move to drum-heavy rhythm, to Shiva's damru instrumentals; when the drums play, they calm him. We began, as always, with the single serious question — what is the piece for — and the answer was already whole: an heirloom worn over the heart, his ongoing bhakti to Mahadev, made to outlive him and be handed on.

The Direction You Chose

One route, settled — silver, blue, and the mantra on the reverse.

From the renders, you chose your damru: silver as the dominant metal so it sits with the chain you already wear, blue across the drum, and ॐ नमः शिवाय held on the reverse. With the direction fixed, the bench could begin.

Your Craft Is Ready

Silver, ringed in blue, the mantra on the reverse — the damru is finished.

It is finished. Silver bands run the length of the drum, each channel set with blue that catches and holds the light; the reverse cap is struck with ॐ नमः शिवाय, known only to you. Bold on the body, still in the spirit — the sound you carry through your days, now made to rest over your heart. Below is the piece, before it came to your hand.

In Your Hand

Delivered, and received. The record closes here.

The damru is yours now. What began as a sound beneath your days — the beat that steadies you rather than stirs you — is drawn into silver, ringed in blue, and struck on the reverse with ॐ नमः शिवाय, where only you will find it. Wear it bold; carry it quiet. A piece like this is not finished when it leaves the bench — it begins when it reaches the hand that will one day pass it on. This page stays, as the record.
